Columbia-Greene Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. is located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, CGTRC offers horseback riding instruction to individuals with special needs. We offer private or group instruction and offer specials for "day trips" / "field trips". Participants can enjoy riding in our outdoor arena, take part in a trail ride and enjoy the animals in our small petting zoo. Special Educational Recordkeeping This training is designed for parents of children who are dealing with the Committee on Preschool Special Education / Committee on Special Education and children who have 504 plans who have special education needs. Transitioning from Pediatric to Adult Health Care and Services Health is the foundation for all that we do. Planning for the transition from pediatric to adult health care and considering the impact health will have on adult services is essential. This workshop provides an introduction to the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to promote a successful transition; allows for the sharing of experience through a panel of parents who have navigated transition planning; and promotes self-advocacy and collaboration between youth, families, service providers, the medical community and school systems. The Healthy Transitions website, a tool for transition planning, will be introduced. Sponsored by Parent to Parent of NYS and the NYS Institute for Health Transition Training. RSVP required by March 15, 2010. “What is Section 504?” This training will teach parents the difference between Section 504 and IDEA. Understanding the Special Education System using the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Part 200-201 This training is designed for participants to learn about legal requirements set forth in the Parts 200-201 Regulations of the Commissioner of Education. Participants will learn how to use these regulations to become equal partners in their child’s education. Parents will also learn effective communication skills on how to work with the CSE and other people in their child/children’s educational program. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Intensive Lay Advocacy Training. The training is designed to provide knowledge about special education regulations and policies related to disabilities. Participants will develop advocacy skills and become more competent in advocating for their child and other children. The overall intent of the training is to teach ways to become a more effective advocate, to give participants a better knowledge base of the laws regarding disabilities and to improve communication skills. Autism Conference - No More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors and Teaching Social Skills Students on the autism spectrum often present with difficulty regulating their feelings and interacting socially. This workshop describes how to handle meltdowns and design effective behavior plans to prevent these moments and reduce frustration and anxiety. The second part of the presentation details strategies to motivate students to learn, ways to teach social skills, how to generalize skills into the natural setting and increase acceptance and tolerance from peers. A Parents Guide to Special Education This training is designed for parents who are just entering the special education system to educate themselves on how to advocate for their child/children. This workshop will provide parents with an overview of the special education process. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
