What You Should Know About Housing

  • There are many options available -- various agency housing options, renting an apartment, or buying your own home.

  • Levels of care vary to meet needs.

  • Give yourself plenty of time to plan and implement your plan.

Through our New York State Cares Outreach Pilot, operating out of our Western Office, we strive to reach the following program objectives:

  1. Orient families to agencies that provide residential services.

  2. Provide information about housing alternatives and Medicaid funded services through the NYS OMRDD system

  3. Encourage families to address the need for placement before a "crisis" occurs

  4. Offer the opportunity for parents to speak to other parents who are contemplating placement (or who have placed an individual), about the issues, obstacles, challenges and emotions that are faced.
