Serving Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton Counties

Welcome to the Adirondack Office of Parent to Parent of NYS -- a place where families of individuals with special needs, and the professionals who support them, can meet and share information.

Parent to Parent of NYS believes in the power of parents helping each other.  It is our hope that the information we share here will flow both ways.  If you belong to a group or association that has information of local interest to families in our community, please let us know and we will pass on the word.  Our goal is to provide you with connections, tools and resources to support you in advocating for a person with disabilities or special health care needs.

Parent to Parent Program: Are you facing the challenges of parenting a child with a disability or special health care needs?   So many questions....are there other children who have disability similar to my child’s?  What will this mean for my family? What about the future?

Parent to Parent of New York State connects parents who live in New York State with a trained volunteer support parent whose child has the same disability, illness, issue or concern to provide support and share information. We can also connect families with local, state or national resources and organizations. You always get a parent who has "been there" on the phone when you call us!

Join our ever expanding network of parent support.   It is isolating when you feel you are the only one who has ever dealt with a situation or you just don't know where to turn for help. We can help reduce your feelings of isolation.  Contact Tia LaFlesh at 518-324- (518) 324-5732 or (866)790-2555 or p2padk@primelink1.net

Do you need to learn about Medicaid Service Coordination or accessing services for a person with developmental disabilities administered by NYS OMRDD?

Medicaid Service Coordination (MSC) is a Medicaid State Plan service administered by the NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD).  MSC assists people with developmental disabilities in gaining access to necessary services and supports to lead successful lives in the community according to their own needs and desires.  Visit our Medicaid Service Coordination page to learn more and view a schedule of trainings for family members.  Questions about MSC or OMR services:  Contact Mary Beth Fadelici at (800)405-8818 or email mbdesk@verizon.net

Health Care Information Center: The Family to Family Health Care Information and Education Center assists families of children with special health care needs in making good health care decisions and accessing health care.  Staff are available to assist in health care advocacy as well as using a Health Care Notebook, an organizational tool to help parents keep track of their child's medical needs. For more information, contact Michele Juda at 800-305-8814 or email f2fhealthtools@verizon.net

“Many parents know the challenges and joys of raising a child with a disability, but we often can’t find each other.  Or we assume that everybody else knows what they’re doing, and we are the only ones who are confused and hurt and lonely. Parent to Parent groups help us connect to each other in new ways.  Sharing our experience makes us strong. Together we will bring our children and our families out of the shadows.”

- Sue Swenson, Commissioner, Administration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
